Our next tasting in Dingle will present us with the opportunity to sample some excellent and very special one off whiskies from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS); https://www.smws.com/our-story The SMWS, founded in 1983, is probably the most famous whisky society in the world today with unparalleled access to single casks from distilleries worldwide and is famous for its iconic Society green bottles as well as their unique branding and tasting notes.

For a whisky to be selected for the SMWS, it must first pass the noses and taste buds of their expert Tasting Panel who are ‘a secretive group of independent whisky connoisseurs from all walks of life,’ and their criteria is simple: quality & interest. The SMWS also has access to coveted casks from “silent” distilleries that are no longer in operation.

IWS ex-presidents Peter White and Garry Carroll who are SMWS members themselves, recently visited the SMWS in Edinburgh and after some gruelling work sampling a broad range of whisky, Peter will present a selection of this whisky including ‘Riding a Duck Bareback Up Mount Etna' & 'Tootie Fruity Booty’ to our membership in Dingle together with a background to just who the SMWS are and how they have evolved from 1983 to the current day.

Unlike most tastings, this is an opportunity to taste whisky which we will never get the opportunity to taste again.
