August sees the Society hold the latest in our occasional series where we survey the malt whiskies available in the various regions of Scotland, and on this occasion we turn to what many people regard as the heart of Scottish whisky, Speyside. This area is home to many of the most famous names in malt and the drams are often characterised as grassy and floral, but since Speyside has the highest number and highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland there are as many exceptions as proofs of the rule, with plenty of peat or sherry on display too. Now that the Society has covered the Lowlands, the Highlands, the Islands, Islay, Campbeltown and Speyside, we have no choice but to go back and start all over again.

This month's tasting will be conducted by IWS founder member Liam Smith.
